TARAN DHILLON FOR WARD 3 - CALGARY

As a father, community volunteer, and proud Ward 3 resident, I know what matters most to our neighbourhoods—reliable basics, safer streets, and smart growth that puts families first.

I’m running for City Council in Ward 3 because our communities deserve dependable basics and a fair share of City investment. I’ve lived the challenges of long commutes, busy family schedules, and services that don’t always keep up. My approach is simple: listen carefully, act quickly, and report back.

What I value

  • Service: City Hall should serve people—not the other way around.
  • Accountability: Clear goals, public dashboards, and monthly updates.
  • Practicality: Start with the basics, fix what’s broken, then build for the future.
  • Inclusion: Multilingual updates and outreach so every neighbour can be heard.

Ward 3 includes the following communities:

Carrington | Country Hills | Country Hills Village | Coventry Hills | Harvest Hills | Hanson Ranch | Hidden Valley | Keystone Hills | Lewisburg | Livingston | MacEwan Glen | Panorama Hills | Sandstone Valley

MY PLAN FOR A BETTER WARD 3

🚦 Safety

  • Fix Bottlenecks: Champion quick, data-driven improvements on routes like Harvest Hills Blvd/14 St NW to reduce daily congestion.
  • Smart Crossings: Add marked pedestrian crossings and traffic-calming where residents flag risk—near schools, parks, and busy arterials.
  • Community Patrols: Support targeted patrols and neighbourhood watch partnerships to deter car theft and property crime.
  • Vision Zero Mindset: Design streets for people first—slower where it matters, clearer signage, safer turns.

🚍 Transit

  • Green Line, Northward: Advocate for faster northward expansion and practical staging that connects Ward 3 sooner.
  • Better Buses: Increase frequency and reliability on key routes; push for timed transfers to cut wait times.
  • Safer Stops: Well-lit, accessible bus stops with snow/ice management so seniors and kids can use transit confidently.
  • “Plan Your Trip” Tools: Promote real-time info and clear signage so riders know exactly when the next bus arrives.

🏠 Families

  • Build With Services: Tie new housing to schools, parks, libraries, and childcare so communities don’t fall behind.
  • Affordable Options: Support housing solutions for seniors, newcomers, and young families without sacrificing quality or safety.
  • Everyday Basics: Faster residential snow clearing, dependable waste/recycling, and fair City investment in the north.
  • Youth & Seniors First: Expand after-school programs, seniors’ programming, and accessible community spaces.

🌳 Parks

  • Upgrade What We Have: Refresh aging playgrounds in established areas like MacEwan Glen and Sandstone.
  • Grow Green Space: Add pocket parks, trees, and off-leash areas as density increases.
  • Year-Round Use: Safer pathways, better winter maintenance, and more benches/washrooms where people actually walk.
